Juneau resident Linda Alvina (Furuness) Ecklund, 87, died June 5, 2005, at Bartlett Regional Hospital.
She was born to John and Olga Furuness on Sept. 16, 1917, at home on a prairie near Brutus, Alberta, Canada. The family moved by horse-drawn wagon to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They moved to Juneau in 1927, and lived at Thane until moving to "town" in 1956.
She met and married Paul Ecklund in 1937. They had four children. When Paul died in 1961, she started working for the school district, then with State Military Affairs as an accounting clerk until she retired.
She enjoyed being with family and friends, reading, playing solitaire and other card games, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint and embroidery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her brothers Ralph, Clifford, Iver and Clarence; and her sisters, Alpha Bailey and Rosella Puustinen.
She is survived by her daughters Joanne, Pauline Baker and her husband Darrell; her sons, Jim and his wife Bette, Pete and his wife Martha; her brother, John Furuness and his wife Donna, all living in Juneau; her sister, Delphine Hill of Indiana, brother-in-law Lahja "Ike" Puustinen; nine nieces and nine nephews; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
