Ice cream cones for helmet-wearers
The Juneau Police Department, along with the Alaska Highway Safety Planning Agency and McDonald's, are encouraging children to wear helmets by offering a strong incentive: ice cream.
If an officer stops a child while he or she is on a bicycle, skateboard, rollerblades or scooter and the boy or girl is wearing a helmet, the child will receive a McDonald's Coupon for a free ice cream cone.
Golf tournament begins
The 11th Annual U.S.-Great Britain Frienship Golf Tournament begins Tuesday, June 19, at 8 a.m. The Tournament commemorates the day former President Gerald Ford and former British Prime Minister Lord Leonard James Callaghan shared a tee-time at Mendenhall Golf on June 19, 1990.
The tournament benefits the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a student organization at Juneau-Douglas High School. Funds are raised to send students to summer sports leadership camps.

Volunteers needed for Only Fools Run at Night
Volunteers are needed to help with the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Alaska's 17th Annual Only Fools Run at Night fund-raising event.
Volunteers are needed on Friday, June 22 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. in Centennial Hall. Help is needed with set-up, registration, walking and running course stations and clean-up after the event. Call Nell Higginbotham at 1-800-478-5683.
