Fairweather Capt. Pete McMahon scouts the course ahead from the operating compartment as the state's new fast ferry makes its way from Haines to Juneau on its first day of service Monday. McMahon, who was captain of the Malaspina, said Monday was a day he'd been looking forward to. "We've been training so hard for seven weeks. We wanted to get into our normal routine ... and do what we do best" with passengers aboard, he said.
