I have visited friends in Juneau every year for the past six years and have heard a lot about the "road to nowhere." I did not understand the reason for that name until just this year.
Sound off on the important issues at
I had thought that the road was a good idea, as then I could take my long-lived dream trip in my motor home and drive to Juneau, taking the whole summer to do it. This year, however, I learned that the road simply went to a new ferry terminal, instead of being a continuous road on land. I just could not believe my ears and wondered what has happened to common sense.
Juneau already has a ferry system, and I understand that it is quite adequate. The cost of the new road and ferry will be exorbitant, and only cause competition with the existing ferry system. Just think of what that amount of money could do if it were spent on other more pressing issues and needs of Southeast Alaska.
