Students from the Communities In Schools, Juneau, Ethics and Leadership after-school program organized a successful Oxfam America Hunger Banquet for the community on May 12. Students and community members joined in the event to raise public awareness about world hunger and poverty and to raise funds for Oxfam America, an international relief and development organization. At the Hunger Banquet, participants were divided into high, middle and low income groups according to the distribution of wealth worldwide. The meals provided reflected the typical standard of living for each group and 60 percent ate only rice and water. For more information on Oxam America at www.oxfamamerica.org.
