Flatcar length was factor in derailment

ANCHORAGE - The length of flatcars was a contributing factor in a train derailment along a sharply curved section of track Thursday near downtown Anchorage, officials said.

Three cars in a 40-car train derailed. Railroad officials said one end of a lightly-loaded car came off the line when the train was switching from one track to the other.

The train was carrying equipment from Fort Wainwright's Stryker Brigade.

The derailment caused minor damage to the three derailed cars and the track, officials said. Crews repaired the track by Thursday evening.
