Military rocket found in yard in North Pole

NORTH POLE - A military-grade rocket was removed after it was discovered in the yard of a North Pole area home.

The anti-tank rocket measured nearly three inches around and was inert, but still attached to a propulsion device.

Alaska State Troopers conducted a voluntary evacuation of the area Thursday while an explosive ordnance disposal team from Eielson Air Force Base recovered the rocket.

Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said residents were in little danger from the rocket, which was taken to the nearby air force base.

Eielson spokesman, Technical Sgt. John Gott, couldn't say if the rocket originated from the base.
