Above left, Juneau city officials break ground for the new high school Thursday during a ceremony at Dimond Park. From left are Juneau Assembly member Jeff Bush, School Board member Bob Van Slyke, School Board President Mary Becker and Assembly members Merrill Sanford and David Stone. About 100 people attended the ceremony. The new school, which will accommodate 840 students, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2008. City voters agreed last year to sell $54 million in bonds for construction of the 166,000-square-foot school. The state will reimburse 70 percent of the cost.
