Coast Guard, industry, combine on spill exercise

Posted: Thursday, June 10, 2010

VALDEZ - The Coast Guard and a subsidiary of ExxonMobil are conducting an oil spill response exercise in Prince William Sound.

The Coast Guard says the exercise with SeaRiver Maritime is part of ongoing efforts to ensure response crews and organizations are prepared for an oil pollution incident.

SeaRiver Maritime, the shipping arm of ExxonMobil, is hosting the exercise out of Valdez as part of its readiness requirements for operating oil tankers. The exercise was to kick off Tuesday with a simulated tanker spill.

The exercise runs through Thursday, concluding with a discussion of how to improve response.
