Juneau's airport personnel are invited speakers at the Mendenhall Refuge Citizens Advisory Group meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Mendenhall Valley Library conference room.
The advisory group invites airport dike trail users, hunters, and anyone interested in the wetlands to attend the meeting. Airport manager Al Heese, field maintenance supervisor Ralph Sanford, and Wildlife Hazards Assessment author Bill Wilmoth will be available to discuss issues related to the airport.
Wilmoth's May 2001 report makes several controversial recommendations, such as cutting the trees between the trail and the floatplane basin to reduce potential bird-aircraft collisions.
The meeting will be a valuable opportunity to question airport personnel about bird hazing, future airport development, and plans for possible runway safety areas. Everyone is welcome.
