Junior Achievement to put on recognition luncheon

Posted: Wednesday, June 11, 2003

A special luncheon of the Juneau Chamber of Commerce will highlight the Junior Achievement Program on Thursday, June 19, in Juneau. The luncheon will recognize teachers, business leaders and financial partners who make Junior Achievement Programs a success in our schools. The luncheon will take place onboard Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas, and is open for the public to attend.

John Pugh, chancellor of University of Alaska Southeast, will be the keynote speaker. Luncheon tickets are $25 and must be purchased by noon on June 12th.

Junior Achievement of Alaska has been providing programs to K-12 students across the state for 30 years.

Local District Committee volunteers help with the recruitment, publicity and fund-raising efforts, with support from the Anchorage JA Staff. JA Programs bridge the classroom with the business world by bringing business consultants into the classroom. They use materials to teach kids about how businesses work and to develop an understanding of our free-enterprise system.

Junior Achievement of Alaska reached nearly 400 students in the Juneau School District and 9,000 students statewide this school year.

Boarding for the luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 19.

Tickets for the luncheon and raffle are still available! Call Jackie Stewart at (907) 463-3789 for tickets or for more details on how to get involved with Junior Achievement in Juneau!
