Anchorage cracks down on problem motel

Posted: Friday, June 12, 2009

ANCHORAGE - The city of Anchorage is cracking down on a motel that police say is a magnet for trouble.

The municipal attorney's office has filed a formal complaint against the Spenard Motel and demanded the operator clean it up or face closure.

Police are called to the motel about 400 times a year. Police say it is used as a place for prostitution and other illegal activities involving drugs and alcohol. It is operated by John C. Yun.

Last year, there were 68 disturbance calls at the motel, 37 intoxications, 31 trespass, 20 arrests, 14 drug and prostitution cases, eight suicides, six assaults, three DOAs and two rapes.
