Saturday, June 16

Juneau Sailing Club -- Around Admiralty Island Spirit of Adventure Sailing Race: Meet near Strauss Rock by South Shelter Island for noon race start. This 200-mile race circles Admiralty Island with a 24-hour mandatory layover at Baranof Warm Springs. Racers typically finish off Mayflower Island near Douglas Harbor on Wednesday through Saturday, June 20-23. Mandatory skippers' meeting at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at the Breakwater Inn. Race is open to single-hulled sailboats at least 20 feet long overall, with appropriate crew for the vessel's size. Skipper must be at least 21 years old. Friday, June 22

Southeast Road Runners Club -- Only Fools Run at Midnight: Meet at 9:30 p.m. at Centennial Hall for this popular fund-raising run for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Alaska chapter, race starts at 10 p.m. Course is five kilometers for runners or 1 1/2 miles for walkers. Prizes for best costumes, including solo runners and centipede groups. Must raise pledges for MDA for prizes. Entry fee $20. Race volunteers still needed. Solstice Invitational Soccer Tournament -- The Juneau Soccer Club sponsors this tournament for middle-school age teams from June 22-24. A total of 12 teams will compete in three divisions, with three teams from Ketchikan, two from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, and seven from Juneau. The games will take place all day at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park and Dimond Park on Friday and Saturday, with the championship bracket on Sunday. Info: John Wray, 789-1759.

Capital City Soccer League -- Women's Classic Soccer registration: Registration forms for this league are available at Zach Gordon Youth Center and are due by June 18. Teams will be organized and contacted after registration is complete. Info: CCSL, 364-2503.

Juneau Softball Association -- Rainball tournament team managers meeting: All team managers or a designated team representative must attend the 6 p.m. meeting on Monday, June 18, at the Travelodge Lounge (9200 Glacier Highway). Recreational soccer coaching clinics -- Join the Alaska State Youth Soccer Association, the Juneau Soccer Club and the Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation for three youth soccer coaching clinics this weekend. A clinic or module for U6/U8 team coaches will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park; a clinic for U8/U10 coaches takes place from 12:30-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Dimond Park; and a clinic for U10/U12 coaches is from 6:30-9 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park. There is no charge for current ASYSA members or coaches who work with JSC soccer teams, but it does cost $15 for anybody else. Open Gyms/Scrimmages/Ongoing

4-H youth running program Thursday runs -- Meet at 5 p.m. at location TBA each Thursday through the summer. The program is for runners in grades K-5. Meet at Perseverance Trail Head on June 14, at Sandy Beach picnic area on June 21, at Rotary Park on June 28 and at Cope Park on July 5. Summer Youth Open Gym -- Meet from 8-11 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym on Fridays throughout the summer. Open gym is free for students in grades 5-12. Adult open soccer scrimmages -- Open scrimmages for adults age 18 and older are being held from 5-7 p.m. every Sunday through June 24 at the Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park football field. The field will be open for women's scrimmages from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays. Scrimmages will also occur from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays through the end of June at the Dimond Park soccer field. Over-35 coed competitive soccer scrimmages -- Competitive scrimmages for adults age 35-older will be held from 7-9 p.m. every Wednesday in June at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park. Open roller hockey scrimmages -- Regular open roller hockey scrimmages for high-school age players and adults this summer are from 8-10 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday night at the Glacier Valley Elementary School's outdoor covered area.
