Murdoch's a purveyor of fear, pessimism

Posted: Wednesday, June 13, 2007

The Democrats refused to debate on Rupert Murdoch's Fox News (the hen house of Western media) because he has chosen to convey through all his news outlets a cynical, demeaning, pessimistic, fear-based reality. Such a reality has nothing in store for humanity but a dying future.

Sound off on the important issues at

On the other hand, the entire essence of the socially minded left is optimistic hope. The left believes tomorrow's reality will be better than today.

Left-minded people, and at least some Democrats, know that if one is preparing for the worst, as a pessimist must, one will always realize at least some derivation of that worst-case scenario. Such an attitude works for captains of industry seeking self-profit maximization, but as captains of a ship-of-state, self-serving profit maximization whittles at the moral fiber that is the fabric of society. It would take the abstract compartmentalizing of a Mensa member to avoid self-service in society if one's life has been all about maximizing profit.

If everyone thinks everyone else is out to get the better end of the stick when interacting, the backdoor of commitment is left open and no one can be held accountable.

Sounds like fascism to me. A real optimist, however, knows nothing is inevitable.
