On May 20 we held a very successful Mexican Fiesta for the benefit of El Puente de Esperiza, the work of Conchita Walker. It was so well-attended that we ran out of food. So first of all I would like to thank all of the people who attended the dinner in support of Conchita Walker's work. I especially wish to thank all those whose plates were not full. We heard no complaints since the cause was such a good one. So many people helped to make this dinner successful; we were able to take in nearly $2,000.

...for animal support
The Gastineau Humane Society would like to thank the entire community for coming out on a rainy Sunday afternoon to support our event, ``Running with the Pack.'' This walk/run brought in over $2,500 for the orphan animals of Juneau!
Over 40 walkers and 14 runners showed their support by collecting pledges and showing up with their furry friends, or came to walk a shelter dog.
Our top pledge winner was once again, Pat Bock! Pat won a trip for two to the Taku Lodge, thanks to Wings of Alaska.
We look forward to seeing all of you again next year, if not sooner!
...for boardwalk support
The City of Pelican would like to publicly thank all of those people who planned, carried out and attended the 2nd Annual Pelican Boardwalk Boogie. We especially want to thank the Boggieman Stewart Ely, and Carol Healy and Colette Costa. Even though they live and work in Juneau most of the year, we know their hearts are in Pelican.
Stewart, Carol and Colette put in many hours to see that the Boogie was a giant success. A large number of Pelican residents also put in labor, time and effort to get the community ready for the event. We would also like to thank the Alaska State Council of the Arts for grant money we received toward the expense of the Boogie. All events, the community potluck, the community hall dances, the live bands at the Pelican Bar and Grill and Rosie's, the Filthy Song Contest and the Duck Race were well attended and a real kick.
The City would especially like to thank all those people who came to our community. All the visitors seemed to have a great time, while yet being respectful of property. We had people camping in town, staying in our community hall, walking up and down our boardwalk, etc. and had virtually no problems. All communities should be so lucky as to have the guests that we were so lucky to have in Pelican.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year for the bigger and better 3rd Annual Boardwalk Boogie.

...for helping nature studies
With broad community support, Discovery Southeast, the Juneau-based nonprofit education organization, was able to include every third through fifth grade student in the Juneau School District in its award-winning Nature Studies program. Over the year, students participated in 12 hours of hands-on learning from nature with Discovery Southeast naturalist-educators and gained a deeper knowledge of the Juneau ecosystem and a sense of stewardship for the local and regional environment.
Discovery Southeast, Southeast Alaska's leader in natural history and conservation education, salutes the following people, organizations and businesses for their support of Nature Studies and Discovery Southeast's other nature education programs.
Over 300 individual members contribute to the success of our programs on an annual basis. Thanks for your ongoing support.
