Former Juneau resident Carl "Kereil" Arthur Larsen Sr., died June 2, 2007, at Mount Edgecumbe Hospital. He was 75.

He was born Aug. 23, 1931, to Agriphinna and Pete Larsen in Karluk. He moved to Sitka in 1953. He attended school in Larsen Bay up to sixth grade. He met Grace Katasse in Sitka, and on May 2, 1959, they were married at the Sitka Assembly of God.

He owned a seiner, the Why Worry. He enjoyed fishing, carving boats and diamond willow canes, taking road trips, watching wrestling, sitting on the porch to feed the birds, cooking and eating "Big Hunk" candy, listening to his classic country music, participating in the fishing derby, talking to the bears in Hoonah, teasing his baby sister and eating his wife's fried bread.

He was known by this nieces and nephews as "Unc."

Family members said he loved his wife, children and grandchildren; and pets, King, Peggy, Sox and Scarfy. He was a fisherman and worked as a nurse's aid at Mount Edgecumbe Hospital. He received an award for assistant cook at Mount Edgecumbe High School; he also worked at the Centennial Building as a janitor.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Grace Larsen; children, Carl, Angie, Chris, William, Carlene, Becky, Olaf, Henry and Adam Larsen; sister, Emma Kohler and her children; brother-in-law, Harry Carlson; niece, Rose Hackett and her husband, Bill; nephew, Bill Jager and his wife, Sue; cousin, Paul Chulik Sr., of Sitka; and many nieces and nephews, too many mention.

Services officiated by the Rev. David Charles at the Russian Orthodox Church were on June 8. Funeral services were June 9 with burial at the Russian Orthodox cemetery.

Pallbearers were Olaf, Eric, Chris, Adam and Lawrence Larsen, Blaine Scouller, Allen Fenwick, Terry Carlson, Steve Johnson, Mike Miller, Buzz Dick and fire chief Scott.

Honorary pallbearers were Kale LaDuke, Paul Chulik, Harry Carlson, Dr. Bob Carlson, Dr. Wood, Dr. Zarley, Jeff Wright, Charlie, Jeff and Gerald Irving, Tim and John Katasse, Mary and Jay Miller, Etta Haberman, Carolyn Booth, Dianne Rakestraw, Brent England, Frank Simmons, Dewey Vilandre, Joe and Patricia Resch, Janene, Susan, Marc, Tommy, Norman, Lewis and Butch Kohler, Carla and Mark Huntington, Chicky Swanson, Bill Hackett, Bill Jager, Chester Huls, Leonty Williams, Lawrence Young, Stephanie and Brian Weddel, Marty Martin, Dan and Patricia Svetlak, Vera Marvin and Agnes Valley.
