Former Juneau resident Mark Joseph Waddell died June 10, 2009, in Anchorage after a lengthy illness. He was 58.
Born Feb. 22, 1951, in Juneau, he graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1969 and from Western Washington University in the mid-1970s. He worked for Alaska Airlines for 25 years, both in Juneau and Anchorage.
Growing up in Juneau, he enjoyed playing baseball and was on the Crimson Bears basketball team. Over the years he enjoyed photography, drawing, painting, creative writing and playing his guitars. His family and friends enjoyed his wicked sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Waddell.
He is survived by his son, Waylon Waddell, of Anchorage; mother, Carol Waddell, and sister, Susan Henderson, of Bremerton, Wash.; sister, Robin Lehman and husband, Pat, of Lawrence, Kan.; nieces, Brandie Ahlgren, of Seattle, and Lindsay Landis and Regan Lehman, of Lawrence.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Jewel Lake Parrish, 3833 Strawberry Road, in Anchorage. A memorial picnic in Juneau is planned from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 22 at Sandy Beach Shelter 1 in Douglas. To honor his wishes he was cremated.
