Good use of head tax

Congratulations and thanks are in order to Kim Kiefer and the folks at the City and Borough Parks and Recreation Department. The city has purchased and installed new bear-proof trash bins in Cope Park, along the Mendenhall River Trail and other places sometimes frequented by bruins. The new trash bins are a nifty design from Canada that have frustrated the best scavenging efforts by bears in Kluane, Banff and other bear hot spots.

The funds for the new bear-proof (and ultimately "bear friendly") trash bins came from the cruise ship passenger fund, all of which shows that Juneau's head tax is good for passengers, locals and bears alike.
