Chanson, Gems, Smith honored

Three Juneau residents made the scholastic honor roll for the winter term at Oregon State University. Students are Robert Rye B. Chanson, Margaret K. Gems and Greg R. Smith.

To be on the honor roll, students must carry a 3.5 grade point average and at least 12 graded hours of course work.

Kincheloe to preside over assembly

Samantha Kincheloe, grand worthy advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, will preside over Grand Assembly from June 22-25 in Juneau.

The Rainbow Girls is an organization open to all girls between the ages of 11 and 20. The girls perform community service, meet twice a month all year to hold business meetings, and perform work in the community on both service and fundraising projects.

Sanders wins $500 scholarship

Juneau resident Logan Sanders was awarded the Charles W. and Leila Sullivan Work Award Scholarship in May from Rabun Gap Naccoochee School.

One returning male and female student receives the $500 scholarship each year. The award recognizes "leadership in quality of work performed" including "honesty and trustworthiness."

He is the son of Vance and Rachel Sanders.

Rickards named to dean's list

Juneau resident Whitney Kathryn Rickards was named to Goucher College's dean list for the fall 2004 semester. Rickards is a freshman at the college. First-year students must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5.

Butler makes president's list

Laura (Kirkham) Butler was named to the president's list at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla. She has completed her third year in the interior design program. She is a 1998 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School.

Magallanes makes dean's list

Juneau resident Ella C. Magallanes, a 2002 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, made the 2005 spring semester dean's list at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is a senior majoring in elementary education. Students need at least a 3.5 grade point average to be eligible for the dean's list.
