Volunteers from throughout the United States will be in Juneau this week for the annual Mountain Rescue Association Conference, June 17-20.
Classroom sessions will be held starting Thursday at Centennial Hall. Several vendors including the University of Alaska Southeast Outdoor Studies program and outdoor equipment companies will be on hand at tables to show their programs or merchandise.
A glacier field day event on the Mendenhall Glacier with Northstar Trekking and TEMSCO Helicopters is planned for Friday, followed by a mountaintop buffet and a presentation of MRA awards at Mt. Roberts Tramway.
Saturday includes search, technical rescue and avalanche related topics at Eaglecrest, capped off by a silent auction and dinner featuring speaker John Svenson at Centennial Hall that evening.
“Juneau Mountain Rescue members have all been working hard to make this MRA annual conference happen,” said JMR President Karl Bausler. “We are all proud of Southeast Alaska and excited to share the beauty of Southeast with our MRA colleagues. We always come away from these annual conferences inspired and thrilled to be a part of Juneau Mountain Rescue.”
The Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) is comprised of highly skilled, active mountain rescue teams from around the country. Each June the association holds a conference where members share the latest in mountain search and rescue methods, build camaraderie, review missions form previous years and observe the latest technology.
