The Alaska State Council on the Arts awarded $69,868 in grants for special projects to Alaska artists and arts organizations at the annual meeting on June 5. In addition, $39,973 was provided for Artists in Schools grants. In total, 19 communities will be receiving grants through these programs.
Special projects grants range from $700 grant to the Denali Arts Council in Talkeetna to host a jazz residency workshop, to $4,000 to the Canvas in Juneau for a year long music program for individuals with disabilities.
Local recipients include Career Opportunity grants for Constance Hartle and Ryan Conarro, Community Development grants for Juneau Dance Fest and for REACH/The Canvas, and an Artists in Schools grant for the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council.
The Alaska State Council on the Arts is funded by the Alaska State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Arts Education program is also partially funded through an agreement with the Rasmuson Foundation.
