Berkowitz won't run for US House next year

Posted: Thursday, June 18, 2009

ANCHORAGE - Former state Rep. Ethan Berkowitz said he will not run for U.S. House next year but he hasn't ruled out a try for governor.

Berkowitz, an Anchorage Democrat, last year challenged incumbent U.S. Rep. Don Young and was defeated.

Berkowitz is a former state House minority leader. He said he could do more for Alaska as governor than he could in Congress.

The only gubernatorial candidate to declare so far has been Democrat Bob Poe.

Gov. Sarah Palin has not said whether she intends to run for re-election.
