WASILLA - A Palmer street could be closed for two weeks to fix a water main that shot a 4-foot geyser into the air.
Palmer director of public works Carter Cole got word of the geyser on Alaska Street on Tuesday night at a city council meeting.
He described the damage as a 4-foot crack running laterally down the 10-inch steel pipe.
Water lifted up the portion of the street where the geyser punched through, buckling and cracking the asphalt.
The water created a sinkhole under the pavement.
Cole said the sinkhole was big enough to lose a couple of cars in it.
