Weyhrauch elected president of ABA: Bruce Weyhrauch was elected president of the Alaska Bar Association at its annual convention in Anchorage, May 17 to 19. Weyhrauch is the owner of the Law Office of Bruce B. Weyhrauch in Juneau. Other officers elected include President-elect Mauri Long of Anchorage, Vice President Lori Bodwell of Fairbanks, Treasurer Daniel Winfree of Fairbanks and Secretary Brian Hanson of Sitka.

Staff changing at SEACC: Tim Bristol, a five-year-veteran with the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, is bidding the organization goodbye and moving on to, where he will work to save wild salmon. In his years at SEACC, Bristol traveled to Washington, D.C., for various hearings with the Alaska delegation and helped educate others about SEACC's vision for Southeast Alaska.

Holly Carroll, administrative assistant at SEACC, is leaving to assist with salmon tagging at a field site on the Unuk River in Misty Fiords National Monument. At SEACC, Carroll designed publications and helped keep the office organized.

Aurah Landau, previously of Anchorage, will join SEACC as a grassroots organizer. Landau holds a degree in environmental policy from Brandeis University and worked most recently in Polaroid's Health Safety and Environment Department.

New officers at United Fishermen: United Fishermen of Alaska has selected its officers for 2000-2001. Bob Thorstenson Jr. of Petersburg was chosen as president, Oliver Holm of Kodiak was chosen as vice-president and Rich Davis of Juneau is the new secretary-treasurer. The new officers assumed their responsibilities on June 15.

Pearson's Pond listed as top romantic destination: Juneau's Pearson's Pond Luxury Inn and Garden Spa was selected among the top 10 romantic getaways in the world by Microsoft Network. Pearson's joins hotels in Bali, Greece, Italy and France on the list; MSN selected the hotels based on their ability to ``give you privacy, quiet and (do) a little extra in the romance department.''
