Capital City Fire and Rescue responded at 12:37 a.m. to a report that the restrooms were ablaze at the Riverside Drive park. Crews arrived to find flames reaching 10 to 20 feet in the air, engulfing the restrooms and the concession stand used by the Juneau Little League Association, the fire department reported.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in a few minutes.
They determined the concession stand was destroyed and the restrooms sustained heavy damage from fire and smoke. The wooden concession stand sat against the mostly cinderblock building that housed the restrooms.
The fire department estimated the property loss at $50,000. Police said Juneau Fire Marshal Rich Etheridge, who responded to the scene, was looking into arson as a cause.
