In season: Black bear (until June 30), freshwater steelhead trout (peaks April-June), cutthroat trout (peaks May-June), salt and freshwater king salmon (peaks May-July), halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), Dolly Varden (June-Aug.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept., peaks July and Aug.)

June 21: 4-H youth running club meets at the Sandy Beach Picnic Area at 5 p.m. Call Jamie or John Bursell at 789-5997.

June 23: Kids Day program on the life of porcupines in the covered viewing area at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center from 11 a.m. to noon. Call 789-6640.

June 23: The Saturday hike is a Shaman Island Outer Point and Peterson Creek loop. This will be an easy to moderate 5-mile tour at sealevel. Meet at the Outer Point trailhead at 9 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call the hike hotline at 586-0428.

June 23 and 24: Low tides, -4.2 at 9:19 a.m. Saturday and -3.7 at 10:05 a.m. Sunday.

June 24: NRA High power rifle shoot at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the shoot starts at 9 a.m. Juneau Rifle and Pistol Club.
