Tlingit master carver Israel Shotridge carves the 40-foot Ketchikan Indian Community Totem at his studio in Vashon Island, Wash. Shotridge, originally of Ketchikan and a member of the Teikweidee Taantwaan Bear Clan of the Tongass Tribe, was recently commissioned by the U.S. Forest Service to create a 12-foot totem pole for the agency's new Hall of Tribal Nations exhibit in Washington, D.C.
