Juneau Jambaars drop first two games at region tourney

The Juneau Soccer Club Jambaars dropped their first two games in the United States Youth Soccer Region IV championships for Under-13 teams in Boise, Idaho.

The Jambaars fell 8-0 to SSC Fire, the Oregon state champs, on Tuesday and dropped a 4-0 decision Monday to the Montana state champs, Magic City.

The Jambaars are the Alaska state champions.

On Monday, Magic City hurt the Jambaars in the first half off corner kicks. Magic City scored in the 20th minute and in the 27th minute, both off corner kicks, to go up 2-0. The Montana state champs went up 3-0 in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, Magic City found the net in the 44th minute to complete the game's scoring.

Max Smith, Peter Jorgensen and Raphael Betit all had shots on goal for the Jambaars while Taylor Lehnhart made four saves in goal.

Jorgensen also took a pair of corner kicks in defeat.

The Jambaars finish pool play at 2:30 p.m. today against the Wyoming state champs, the Laramie Blizzard.
