JUNEAU - The Canvas community art studio is hosting Family Robot Day from 10 a.m. to noon today with Noelle Dersé and MK MacNaughton leading. Celebrate Father's Day by creating your own robot, or family of robots. This free family event is inspired by brothers, Will, 4, and Eero, 2, who will be on hand to offer inspiration. The Canvas welcomes donations of creative robot materials. Drop materials off in advance or join them today.

The Canvas also will host an Umbrella Workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. June 28. Participants will paint their own umbrella and can join The Canvas in the Fourth of July parade. Umbrellas and paint provided. Donations are accepted.

Also, Ken Waldman, Alaska's fiddling poet will do two music and poetry shows on June 29 at the Canvas. The kids' show is at 6 p.m., and the general show is at 7:15 p.m. Waldman celebrates his second children's CD, "D is for Dog Team." Expect a mix of fiddle tunes, stories, poems, songs and surprises.

Waldman has made his living since 1995 performing nationally as Alaska's fiddling poet. This live show combines old-time Appalachian-style fiddling with original poetry and Alaska-set storytelling. Guest artists will join the performance, promising a one-of-a-kind show. Suggested donation is $8, with $5 for students and seniors.
