Two teens injured in Thane rollover

Posted: Sunday, June 22, 2008

Two teens were injured Friday after a 1989 black Mazda went off Thane Road during a race with white truck, Juneau police said.

The teens, a 17-year-old female driver and 16-year-old male passenger, received treatment from Bartlett Regional Hospital and were released.

Police said drugs and excessive speed contributed to the accident.

The two vehicles were racing at about 5 p.m. near the Thane Ore House when the girl lost control, veered into a ditch, struck several large boulders and rolled over at least two times, police said. The white truck was not at the scene when police arrived.

The investigation is continuing.
