Red Cross seeks office volunteers

Castro completes USCG recruit training

Coast Guard Seaman Joseph P. Castro, son of Audrey Castro of Juneau, and Roy P. Castro of Cheltenham, Md., recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

Castro is a 2000 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School.

During the eight-week training program, Castro completed a curriculum of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, firefighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.

Castro and other recruits also received instruction in the Coast Guard's core values - honor, respect and devotion to duty.

Carson graduates from Pacific University

Chester Duke Carson of Juneau graduated from Pacific University, in Forest Grove, Ore., with a bachelor's degree in media arts-film production.

Anderson earns B.A. from UA Fairbanks

Robert Bruce "Bo" Anderson graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a B.A. degree in theater performance and a minor in art.
