ANCHORAGE - Two Alaskans in a cross-country motorcycle ride got off to a bad start.

The Anchorage Daily News reports 59-year-old Charles Marble of Anchorage and 63-year-old Jerry James of Cooper Landing crashed in Florida in separate accidents Sunday on the first day of the two-week journey. Their injuries are reportedly non-life threatening.

About 500 people are taking part in the 7,000-mile Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge that is expected to reach Homer on the Fourth of July. The challenge raises money for charities.
