ANCHORAGE - An Anchorage man has pleaded guilty to a fatal shooting in April 2008 on a popular bike trail.

Roger Perkins on Monday entered the guilty plea to second-degree murder as part of a deal with prosecutors.

A man walking his dogs on the Campbell Creek Trail under the Arctic Boulevard bridge near Dimond Boulevard found the body of 48-year-old Elmer Patrick.

According to charging documents, Perkins, Patrick and a third man were drinking beer when Perkins pulled a pistol from a shoulder holster and put it to Patrick's head.

Perkins told police he didn't know why the gun went off. Perkins will be sentenced in October.
