Search continues for missing airplane

ANCHORAGE - Searchers in Alaska and Canada have found no signs of a small airplane that disappeared Saturday.

A California couple, 68-year-old pilot Gary Petigler and his wife, 66-year-old Ingrid Petigler, left the Wolf Lake Airport near Palmer at 4 p.m. Saturday in a single-engine red-and-white Beechcraft.

Their flight plan called for them to reach Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, by 8:30 p.m. but they did not arrive.

An Alaska National Guard HC-130 airplane and a helicopter searched Monday. Crews are optimistic that the couple will be found alive.

No emergency signal from the plane has been detected.
