Slater receives bachelor's degree

Mackenzie Slater, daughter of Adrian Slater and Justine Emerson of Juneau, received a bachelor's degree in biology from Gordon Colleges, in Massachusetts.

Kelly accepted by exchange program

Owen B. Kelley of Juneau has been accepted by Youth For Understanding USA as an international exchange student. He will live with a family in Chile on the YFU 2004 Year program. He attends Juneau-Douglas High School.

Freeman graduates University of Oregon

Lisa Ann Freeman, Juneau-Douglas High School, graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in comparative literature and journalism. She is the daughter of Ron and April Freeman of Brush Prairie, Wash., formerly of Juneau.

Magallanes named to dean's list

Ella C. Magallanes of Juneau was named to the dean's list at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for the 2003-2004 year. She is studying elementary education. Ella is the daughter of Joy Carrillo-Magallanes and Javier Magallanes, both of Juneau.

Library winners

Every week the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries sponsors a drawing for kids who come into the library to borrow items.

Local businesses have generously donated prizes.

Fagnant receives bachelor's degree

Thomas Doyle Fagnant of Juneau recently received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Gonzaga University, which awarded 731 undergraduate bachelor degrees at its 117th Commencement ceremony this spring. The degrees were conferred at commencement ceremonies held May 9 at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
