Sports brief: Jambaars win Fair Play Award at region tourney

The Juneau Soccer Club Jambaars Under-13 boys soccer team was awarded the Fair Play Award on Wednesday at the United States Youth Association Region IV tournament in Boise, Idaho.

The Jambaars, the Alaska state champs, finished 1-2 in the tournament.
The award is presented to the team in each age and gender category based on notes taken by the referee following each game.
In a friendly match on Thursday, the Jambaars upended Hawaii Rush '93 Nike 1-0.
Andy Lawson scored off a Max Smith assist in the 67th minute to down the Hawaii state champs.
Smith, Nathan Fosket, Riley Paul, Rhett Bennett and Devin Bertholl all had shots on goal in the win.
Goalkeeper Taylor Lehnhart made 13 saves to preserve the shutout.
