Juneau Assembly members Jeannie Johnson, Frankie Pillifant, Marc Wheeler and Mayor Sally Smith in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, earlier this month during a sister-city exchange. Each year, a delegation from either Juneau or Whitehorse makes a trip across the border to share ideas and promote friendship between the two communities. Other Juneau representatives who made the trip included city staff members Maria Gladziszewski and Laurie Sica, Juneau Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Lorene Kappler, Juneau Economic Development Council board member Chuck Collins, Juneau Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jamie Parsons and Juneau Empire Publisher Don Smith. The delegation looked at a new waterfront development project in Whitehorse, the partially-finished Millennium Trail and citywide compost collection system, Sica said. In addition, the group toured a new multiplex sports center and aquatic center now under construction. The multiplex will be used when Whitehorse hosts the Canada Winter Games in 2007.
