Riederers celebrate 50th
Dr. Joe and Jean Riederer of Juneau recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Sunriver, Ore. They were married June 10, 1951, in Moscow, Idaho. In attendance at the anniversay celebration were many friends and family members, including all eight of their children and 14 grandchildren. More than 70 people came from the Northwest, Alaska, Texas, Hawaii, California, Yukon, Alberta and Sweden.
The activities were planned by their children and included a surprise live performance by Joe's favorite Scandinavian singer and comedian, Stan Boreson.
Carls' to celebrate their 25th
Mark and Becky Carls were wed on the Fourth of July, 1976, on Long Island, New York. Twenty-five "interesting" years, two master's degrees, two kids and one cat later, they are having a party this Sunday to mark the occasion.
The party will be held July 1 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 4212 Mendenhall Loop Rd., across from Taku Boulevard. There will be a brief renewal of vows ceremony at 7 p.m., followed by fun, festivities and food by 7:30. Friends of the family are invited to attend either or both events, but no presents, please.
Over the years, Becky and Mark moved from Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they each earned a master of science degree in biological oceanography, to Eugene, Ore., and to Juneau, where they have lived for the past 22 years.
Their daughter, Erika, is a senior at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., her father's alma mater. Their son, Steven, recently completed his schooling at Juneau-Douglas High School and plans to attend the University of Alaska Southeast in the fall.
