On May 13, Gonzaga University awarded degrees to two students from Juneau.
Andrea L. Corso of Juneau is the daughter of John and Dianne Corso. She received a bachelor of arts in English, magna cum laude.
Michael S. Janes of Juneau is the son of Robert and Rose Janes. He received a bachelor of arts in art.
Allison T. Smith of Juneau graduated cum laude from Northland College.
Smith earned a bachelor of science in outdoor education with emphasis in both special populations and natural history.
Oregon State honors
Elizabeth Ann Fitzgerald, a senior in exercise and sports science, has earned the American Association of University Women Senior Woman Recognition Award and was named a Clara H. Waldo and E.A. Cummings Outstanding Student Award Honoree.
The AAUW award recognizes outstanding scholarship, character and personality that contributes to campus and community life. The Waldo and Cummings student awards are presented to outstanding students on the basis of academic skills and superior extracurricular achievements.

The following students have been named to the dean's or chancellor's list at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in recognition of outstanding academic achievements during the spring 2001 semester.
Honors students with a 4.0 G.P.A. are placed on the chancellor's list while those with a 3.5-3.99 G.P.A. are placed on the dean's list.

Alaska Congressman Don Young recently promoted Sara Parsons from staff assistant to legislative assistant. Parsons was born and raised in Juneau. She started her tenure in Young's Washington, D.C., office in January. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon.
Nathan J. Soboleff graduated cum laude from Oregon State University on June 17. He was granted a degree in natural resources management by the College of Forestry.
He is the son of Janice Gregg Levy and Ross V. Soboleff, both of Juneau.
