Kathy Maca teaches her daughter, Leilani, 4, how to swim Saturday in a pond at Mendenhall Lake. As of 6 p.m. Saturday, Juneau's high temperature was 72, ending the area's run of eight consecutive 80-degree days. Friday's high was 83, setting a record (eight) for most 80-degree days in an entire summer. Before this hot spell, Juneau had never recorded more than four straight 80-degree days and had never seen more than seven 80-degree days in one summer. According to the National Weather Service, today's high will be 66 to 72 degrees, with a 30-percent chance of showers.
