Parnell signs fishing industry bills

Posted: Sunday, June 27, 2010

PETERSBURG - Gov. Sean Parnell has signed legislation increasing the limit that can be paid to injured fishermen under a special fund.

The bill was among several Parnell signed Friday during a swing through southeast Alaska. It raises from $2,500 to $10,000 the total allowance for any one heart attack or for any one injury or disablement. This is a part of a larger measure addressing the fishermen's fund advisory and appeals council.

He signed other fishing industry measures in Petersburg as well. One deals with expanding provisions of a tax credit for salmon product development to include ice-making machines. Another urges the federal government to provide money to market and promote U.S. produced seafood.
