ANCHORAGE - Alaska authorities are reminding people to be smart about their hiking trips.
The Department of Public Safety says a recent search and rescue mission on Flattop Mountain was one of about 10 incidents in which hikers either have been unprepared for winter-like conditions they've encountered at high elevations or have been hurt trying to slide down snow chutes.
One of the two teen-age hikers in the Flattop incident scraped a leg on a snow chute, and the department says both were successfully brought down by authorities.
