ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers have identified the trooper who shot and wounded a man who authorities say threatened troopers with a firearm and knife.

Trooper Mike Wilcox of Delta Junction Post was the trooper who ultimately shot the suspect.

Four troopers went to a Tanacross home at about 10 p.m. Tuesday to check reports that the man had strangled a relative and held a gun at another person.

According to troopers, the man barricaded himself in his home. While troopers waited for back up to arrive, the man came out with a gun and a knife and was shot.

Troopers did not immediately release the man's name because he hadn't been charged with any crime.

The suspect is being treated at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
