In season: Black bear (until June 30), freshwater steelhead trout (peaks April-June), cutthroat trout (peaks May-June), salt and freshwater king salmon (peaks May-July), halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), sockeye, pink and chum salmon (runs June to Sept., peaks in July), coho salmon (June-Nov.), Dolly Varden (June-Aug.), bear viewing at Pack Creek (June-Sept., peaks July and Aug.), and freshwater Northern Pike (peaks July-Aug.).

June 28: Trail Mix monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Call 790-6406.

June 30 and July 1: Gold Rush Days logging and mining events both days from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dimond Park. See special section for details.

June 29-July 1: Adult Basic Dinghy Sailing (Friday evening plus Saturday and Sunday). For details visit http://www.juneausailingclub.org/

June 30: Juneau Alpine Club Grandchild Peaks Climb. Call 789-7058.

June 30: The Saturday hike is Granite Creek Trail. This will be a moderately difficult 8-mile tour with a 2,100 foot elevation gain. Meet at the Perseverance trailhead at the end of Basin Road at 9:30 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call the hike hotline at 586-0428.

June 30: Kids Day program on lichens at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center covered viewing area from 11 a.m. to noon. Children under 7 should bring an adult. For more call 789-6640.

July 1: Public trap shoot at 10 a.m. every Sunday at the Juneau Gun Club. Call 789-9844.

July 1: NRA Approved High-Power Rifle Alaska 300-Yard Prone Championship at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range. Registration will go from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. followed by a safety meeting. Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. Visit the Juneau Rifle and Pistol Club at http://go.to/jrpc/.

July 4: Four gun fun shoot and barbecue from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Juneau Gun Club at half mile on Montana Creek Road. For details call 789-9844.
