We absolutely agree with Patrick McGonegal: We don't need another high school; we need a new high school. Mr. McGonegal's letter to the editor on June 16 laid out a compelling array of arguments for a single, new high school, big enough for Juneau's entire high school population. This alternative should certainly be high on the list of solutions currently being considered.
Our vote against the school was not about money. Our main concern, one not mentioned by Mr. McGonegal, was that having two high schools would create additional divisiveness between town and Valley, akin to the Juneau-Douglas rivalry that existed before those schools were consolidated. Let's work to give all our high school kids a top-notch education in a well thought-out new facility.
