JUNEAU - Five attorneys are applying to be a Juneau District Court judge.
The Alaska Judicial Council evaluates applicants and nominates the most qualified applicants to the governor who makes the appointment.
The council will consider experience, references from both employers and other attorneys and a background investigation of each applicant before making a decision. Additionally, applicants must provide a writing sample and the council will solicit public comments about each applicant through its website and at a public hearing.
The Judicial Council will interview applicants and conduct a public hearing in Juneau in August. Following the interviews, the council will nominate two or more persons to the governor, who then will have 45 days to make the appointment.
