Juneau resident George C. McCurry, 61, died on June 23, 2003, at his residence.
He was born in Juneau, on Jan. 5, 1942, and attended Juneau-Douglas public schools. Valedictorian of his 1960 high school class and a National Merit Scholarship winner, he graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1965.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years and was part of the White House communications team during the Lyndon B. Johnson administration. He worked for the Alaska Department of Transportation for 34 years. He was a registered professional engineer in Alaska and California.
Family members say he was interested in book collecting, travel, photography and classical music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sophie and William S. McCurry.
He is survived by his brother, Robert McCurry of Connell, Wash.; companion, Susan Floyd of Poway, Calif.; and former spouse, Lynda McCurry of Juneau.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 2 at Glacier Gardens.
