Abigail Schnittke, left, visiting from Columbus, Ohio, Joe Mancini and Chris Mancini, both from Long Island, N.Y., and Linda Schnittke, also from Ohio, examine chunks of ice on display at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The ice broke off the glacier and floated to the beach. Eric Schnittke stands in the back. The ice on display traveled 13.5 miles from the Juneau Icefield, which took about 200 to 250 years.
