OPENING

"All Fall Down," (NR) ***

Synopsis: A womanizer moves back home with his dysfunctional family and falls for a beautiful border. A powerhouse cast transcends an overwrought script.

"Rebound," (PG) *

Synopsis: A hotheaded coach (Martin Lawrence) is banned from college hoops and ends up coaching a junior high team instead. Dull and unfunny.

"War of the Worlds," (PG-13) ***

Where: 20th Century Twin. Times: daily at 4:10, 7, 9:45 p.m.; additional Saturday and Sunday show, 1:30 p.m.

Synopsis: A deadbeat dad and his two kids attempt to escape destruction as aliens invade the earth. A scary thrill ride from Steven Spielberg.

Synopsis: "Begins" tells the story of how Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) became the vigilante super hero. A stylish, character-driven, comic book movie.

Synopsis: A smarmy actor (Will Ferrell) unwittingly gets a real-life witch (Nicole Kidman) to star with him in "Bewitched" update. No chemistry between leads.

"Herbie: Fully Loaded," (G) **1/2

Synopsis: That darn '63 VW Beetle is back, this time helping a young woman (Lindsay Lohan) achieve her racing dreams. Cute but bland "Love Bug" update.

"Land of the Dead," (R) ***

Synopsis: The wealthy use fear of dead to control the living in director George Romero's latest zombie fest. Mixes horror with political satire.

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith," (PG-13) ***

Synopsis: John and Jane Smith (Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie) are an "ordinary" couple who happen to be assassins working for competing organizations.
