Captain Vicki "Susie" Lynn Jackson

Juneau and Kake resident Vicki "Susie" Lynn Jackson died on July 25, 2010 in Seattle, Wash. She was 51.

Susie was born in 1959 in Converse, La. and raised in Kake. She graduated from Kake High School, after which she attended Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, graduating with a B.A. in elementary education in 1982. She then attended the Salvation Army Training School in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., graduating with a degree in ministry. In her life, she worked as a Salvation Army officer and a teacher. With the Salvation Army, Susie served in Klawock, Juneau and Petersburg. As a teacher, she taught in Kake for two years and in Juneau for 16 years, ending her tenure at Harborview Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas L. Jackson Jr.; brother, Daniel Jackson; grandparents, Thomas L. Jackson Sr., Mona Catherine Jackson, Noel Nichols and Oree Averittes; great-grandparents, Mary Magdalene Box and Marion Mathew Nichols and GMattie Varnell and Fisher Isgett, Sr.

She is survived by her mother, Martha "Ann" Jackson; brother, Michael James (Sarah)Jackson; sister, Lisa (Pat) Pennoyer; nieces, Eva Jackson and Chelle Pennoyer; nephews, Jordan Hoff and Stephan (Marissa) Pennoyer; uncles Bobby (Carolyn)Nichols, James (Mary) Nichols, uncles, Joel Jackson, Loren Jackson, Larry (Ellie) Jackson, Michael (Edna) Jackson, Gary (Julie) Jackson, Myron Jackson, Lary (Velma) Schafer and Dave Arthur; Aunts, Jada (Henry) Smith, Cheryl Evan, Della (Bill) Cheney, Momma-shaan Flora Huntington and Poppa-shaan Tom Huntington, and numerous "loving" cousins and extended family in Christ.

A memorial service will be held in Juneau today at 7 p.m. the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall. A Kake memorial is scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday at the Community Hall in Kake. Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at the Community Hall in Kake.

Honorary pallbearers are Jada Smith, Cheryl Evan, Della Cheney, Loren, Larry, Michael, Gary, Joel, Myron Jackson, Lary Schafer, Dave Arthur, Josh Gobarrs, Renee Kadake, Roxanne Lee and daughters Cindy and Heidi.
